My Rating
I have been a JD Robb fan for years. I have read the In Death series multiple times usually each time a new book comes out I reread the whole series. Kind of strange I know.
In the In Death series, the main character, Lieutenant Eve Dallas is a homicide investigator for New York in the year 2061. She has personally experienced assault and trauma, which helps make her into a more compassionate detective even though those who don’t know her think she is gruff and uncaring.
In Desperation in Death, the storyline of girls being taken and held prisoner for sale hits very close to home for her. For that reason, she takes great joy in solving this crime and helping the victims.
One thing that’s so fantastic about the In Death book series is the cast of of secondary and peripheral characters that weave through each book throughout the series of 50+ plus books.
Lt. Dallas is a heroine who is slightly flawed, whose growth into a fully-rounded , fully functioning woman has been a treat to see. The pain the characters deal with, grow from, has been an inspiration. The world building – in a futuristic sense – is interesting and complete. I love how JD Robb (pen name of Nora Roberts) is able to keep all the storylines, characters and crimes fresh. Nothing about this series is old or trite.
Recommend?
I recommend that if you are a fan of romance and need something with a little more meat in the storyline start reading JD Robb’s In Death series. If you are like me and a series addict this will fit you perfect.
