her Story
We are starting a new publishing/media imprint whose main objective is to allow state and federal inmates the opportunity to publish manuscripts.
We have many reasons for starting this venture:
- As people who have had family and friends incarcerated, we are aware of the unique living conditions and limited social / commercial interactions inmates live with;
- Some prisoners want to tell their story or want to write a fiction book but do not have the ability to access publishing professionals, literary agents or publishing houses;
- Prisoners who want to self-publish cannot afford professional services and are not technologically equipped to do all that is needed for publication themselves.
Added to those reasons, currently the public has a desire for unique stories and memoirs, so books written by inmates could help satiate that desire.
To kick-off this new publishing imprint, we are accepting submissions for essay anthologies – a collection of essays written by multiple individuals – with the theme ‘My Life Behind Bars’. The anthology will be available in paperback, large-print paperback, and the two ebook formats for all online retailers. The essays should be 1500-2500 words and can be humorous, matter of fact, introspective or the horrors of incarceration. While these can focus on the standard ‘this is my daily routine’ it can also focus on how you have grown and what changes you have been able to achieve personally or educationally.
